Many years ago, I was on an internal UK flight, sitting right up at the
front of the plane. A guy sat down next to me but, of course, being
British, we only exchanged the most cursory of initial acknowledgements,
and didn't speak again.

However, well into the flight, he suddenly turned to me, and said "It's
true what they say".

Taken somewhat aback, I said "Sorry? I'm not quite with you".

"You normally hear them before you see them", he replied.

He was, of course, referring to a particularly loud American gentleman,
who must have been about 15 rows back, talking so loudly that he was
probably heard 30,000 feet below, on the ground.

We didn't speak again (of course), but I've never forgotten what he said
to me.

Ian.

How come them wimmins who live next door to me have to be gay? I want a
nice straight woman neighbor who will let me step over there and play
with her.

One of the times when I was in N'Awlins, (New Orleans) in 1971, I saw an
ad in a newspaper about a restored 1955 MG car for sale.I phoned the guy
and I drove over there to check the car out.We went riding. The car was
quiet enough, but when he talked, it was like he was hollering at the
top of his lungs.Turns out he worked off shore on an oil rig. Most
Americans are not loud and brash and loud talking no more so than other
people around the World.I always keep my radio and tv turned down low
and I don't holler at people unless it's a situation where/when I would
need to holler.I am really a quite dude and so are all of the people I
know around here.
