"Ford to Offer HD Radio on 2008 Vehicles"
"The option will be available for about $279 for standard HD radio, or $299 for HD radio with iPod compatibility, Sears said. There is no monthly subscription fee and the installation will take about 30 minutes and cost $40 to $50, he said." http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5g...TS4DiajveYQOcg Very interesting that Ford is not footing the bill for installation and that installation is done at point-of-sale. Ford is heavily promoting their new Sync option for the same $350. Still, this is not good news. |

Why would Ford even say yes to HD Radio as an after-thought - same with Ford owned Jaguar. |

"Ford SYNC, HD Radio and the state of competition" "But Ford SYNC is coming out this fall. And it'll be standard on the top trim levels (which constitute about 40% of Ford's sales). And this will have a ripple-effect throughout all the other auto manufacturers as the platform is licensed to GM, Honda and Toyota (this is Microsoft we're talking about... though as Dave Zatz point out to me last night, there is no Microsoft logo when you boot up). And if I was working at XM or Sirius, I'd be looking this and shaking my head. Because those OEM subscriber numbers are going to take a turn for the worst as soon as this hits the streets. Later, when an AM radio was standard equipment, an AM-FM radio was an option. It won't be long and HD radio will be standard equipment in all new cars. Now Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, BMW, and Jaguar offer HD as an option on their 2008 line of vehicles. And the 2008 Hyundai Gensis will also offer it -- OR, as I have read, HD Radio in the Gensis may be STANDARD EQUIPMENT. Too bad, IBOCcrock, you are spending half your life fighting a losing battle. Looks like all your stupid, uneducated predictions are going down the drain. HA! HA! |

Looks like all your stupid, uneducated predictions are going down the drain. HA! HA! IMHO - When 'HD" Radio is a OEM Factory Equipment in new Automobiles : Then "HD" Radio will become the Standard that American Consumer will demand for Everyday Listening : in the Car or Truck ; at Home ; and in the Office / at Work. Think of how you think of the common AM/FM-Stereo Radio today as being "What Is and Should Be" -IF- 'HD" Radio becomes the OEM Factory Equipment in new Automobiles : Then with in 3~5 Years the average American {Who Love's Their Car or Truck} will come to accept "HD" Radio as being "What Is and Should Be" The Current FCC Planning Failures of "HD" Radio are : That it is Limited to 1% of the Analog Signal's ERP. - - - Year # 1 @ 1% Year # 2 @ 2% Year # 3 @ 4% . . . No FCC Requirement for Manufactures and Importeres to Produce Only "HD" AM/FM Radios by a Certain Date for Use in the USA. {Forced Transition by the Radio Listeners} No FCC Mandate For All US Broadcasters To Be "HD" by a Certain Date. {Forced Transition by the Radio Broadcasters} Three Classes of AM/MW "HD" Radio Broadcasters : * Rural Local 1000 Watts - Days and Nights * Metro Local 3000 Watts - Days and Nights * Regional 9000 Watts Days and 3000 Watts Nights Localizes All "HD" Radio Broadcasting. The Transition to Digital "HD" TV was an Example of Good Planning by the FCC and the TV Broadcasters. Where as "HD" Radio is and FCC lack of planning Failure - Big Time - imho ~ RHF I Ask Myself : What IBOC ?
