MyFM comes to a Sprint phone near you

Personalized radio.

Available now from Sprint and Pandora.com.

All for a mere 3 bucks a month if you have the right phone plan.

Let's pretend your station was available on a mobile phone tomorrow.

Besides the fact that it's (presently) free, what would be your
competitive advantage over a service that's personalized?

In other words, as a consumer, which do you prefer: "One size fits
all" or "my size fits me"?

There is an answer to this question, of course, and regular readers of
this blog know what it is.

Hint: It's not about trimming staff, multiplying options, and reducing
clutter.

Yep. It's free. But not for long, and it will obliterate the MW
spectrum with its powerful sideband interference. Internet radio is at
this point probably the best ally traditional AM radio has.

Commercials are part of the entertainment. Really - especially on a
local small town station - where those still exist -- you have to have
the right view point on all of this - commercials are just as
important as the content - and not just to the advertisers. !!!!!!!
You can always pop in a CD and get the music part or turn on a TV and
get the sports part. Or read a newspaper.

While driving?

We have a local station here and they easily run 3 times as many
commercials as the L. A. stations. Every commercial is the same:
instrumental bacground, ****tily written copy, blah, blah.

Commercials are an insult to my intelligence. They are the aural
equivalent of billboards along an otherwise pristine highway.
Commercial radio sucks. Public broadcasting with the semi-annual
beg-a-thon sucks. Subscription radio for those willing to pay and
goverment subsidised news (e.g. BBC World Service) to insure democracy
survives. If the radio is so bad only yakes listen, then we will be a
nation of yakes.
