I bought one of the original ones when they first came out.I have the board
with the red solder mask vs the new units that have the green solder mask. Even before I did the upgrades, the radio worked very well. Early on, the input coil for the 455kHz I.F. strip was changed to a tunable one, to compensate for variances in the resonating capacitor. Eventually, a higher stability trimmer cap for the reference oscillator was used. As the Murata CFR series of metal cased filters became unavailable, mechanical filters were used for both I.F. bandwidths. AGC action is very good........this radio can handle 1 volt of RF at the antenna input before the unit goes into clipping. A UHF LO is used, and it is divided down by 8, so that you get the advantage of fine tuning steps along with fast settling time of the synthesizer. Even though the LF preselector range switches over at 1MHz, the 1st mixer is very good, so there is no evidence of 3rd order IMD products on the longwave band. One of the best receivers ever made; mine is a keeper! Pete "Radioguy" wrote in message ... Your information is much welcome! Hans Check out the Eham site for at least 5 reviews on the 30C which may be a little different that your radio. Universal Radio has them for around $650. |
