I am in Hong Kong and I can just pick up RNZI on my Sony ICF-SW7600GR with the built-in telescopic antenna. The signal is a bit faint. Not surprising, considering that their target area is the Pacific islands, not Asia. It is however surprising that you can hear them in the middle of USA. That's way off target. I guess you're not using my kind of portable equipment. Am I right? The RNZI signal is often strong enough to hear in the eastern USA on a good portable receiver with just the whip antenna. It's just a matter of listening at the right time. RNZI used to be a real DX catch many years ago when they were using only 7.5-kw of power. Then they went to 100-Kw and it became easy to hear them. I ran across them on 7145 just by coincidence the other night. I don't recall RNZI ever using the 41-m band before. |
