He doesn't.

You forgot to read the post about Telamon: "He's a legend in his own mind".

Although some newsgroups are "moderated"...this one is not.

(Otherwise do you think anyone would let Telamon be such a pest?)

You've mentioned two or three times now that you "own this newsgroup",
but without going into any detail.

Fair enough...

Please elaborate.

Thank you.

I bought it from the creators of the news group years ago. Basically the
document was a bill of sale or sales agreement, which effected the
transfer of ownership. It has turned out to be a very good deal for me
except for a few people I have to put up with.

Billy,

No one "owns" a newsgroup. A newsgroup is just a lot of internet traffic
that is not owned by anyone.

However, there ARE *moderated* newsgroups.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newsgro...ted_newsgroups

This newsgroup, rec.radio.shortwave is NOT one of the moderated newsgroup.
Anyone can post...and again, no one can own it.

Thanks to those that responded (including Telamon).

First, I FULLY REALIZE this is NOT a moderated news group. But thanks to
those of you that pointed it out.

Finally, -Telamon- made the claim that he owns it. The purpose of my
original post above, was to 'call' -him- on that statement and have him
elaborate a bit.

Telamon, thanks for the response; however, your brief explanation
generated more questions than it answered.

First, you say your "bill of sale or sales agreement" is a " *transfer*
of ownership". Fair enough. That explains the 'transfer' part. But you
did not address how it is actually *owned* in the first place, either by
you or others. Are you saying that if I started a news group on some
topic, that I would own it and then could actually sell it to someone
else at a later date? How would I prove my ownership to potential
buyers? Once they bought it, how would they prove to others that they
are now the new owners?

Is there something like a "Registrar of Deeds" of news groups or some
kind of equivalent to the Secretary of State for car titles where one
can actually look up news group ownership? Is there some kind of web
site where we can view a list of the owners of various newsgroups?
Reference(s) please.

Thank you.

Essentially I Own a business interest in the news group and yes the news
group is public place to post and read through numerous servers. The
best analogy I can think of is the sidewalk in front of your house. You
own it and are responsible for its condition but the city has an
easement for public use. Anyone can walk down the street and use it.

The news groups are not registered with a city like real estate because
it is virtual property and yes there is an organization of news group
owners. These are private business arrangements between people and I am
not at liberty to name the members. No need to worry about some kind of
conspiracy here as this is just business. The business arrangements are
registered with Internet domain name registrars and can be accessed by
people of standing and that does not include you as far as I know. It's
not quite on the level of the need to know but people do value their
privacy. You can understand that I hope because you are an amateur

Essentially I Own a business interest in the news group and yes
the
news
group is public place to post and read through numerous servers.
The
best analogy I can think of is the sidewalk in front of your
house.
You
own it and are responsible for its condition but the city has an
easement for public use. Anyone can walk down the street and use
it.

The news groups are not registered with a city like real estate
because
it is virtual property and yes there is an organization of news
group
owners. These are private business arrangements between people
and I
am
not at liberty to name the members. No need to worry about some
kind
of
conspiracy here as this is just business. The business
arrangements
are
registered with Internet domain name registrars and can be
accessed
by
people of standing and that does not include you as far as I
know.
It's
not quite on the level of the need to know but people do value
their
privacy. You can understand that I hope because you are an
amateur
operator and not just anybody.

Wrong, wrong wrong......more mis-information...

Really? What do you know about it?

Enough to know your wrong.

I have not seen a post by you that shows you know anything.

There was the post that says you were full of ****.

That shows he knows something!

Actually the nasty language shows that he, like you, knows nothing.

.....so says Telamon the king of insults.

I do own it

You've mentioned two or three times now that you "own this
newsgroup",
but without going into any detail.

Fair enough...

...but could you please explain -how- someone "owns" a
newsgroup? A
title? A deed?

Please elaborate.

Thank you.

Thanks to those that responded (including Telamon).

First, I FULLY REALIZE this is NOT a moderated news group. But
thanks
to
those of you that pointed it out.

Finally, -Telamon- made the claim that he owns it. The purpose
of
my
original post above, was to 'call' -him- on that statement and
have
him
elaborate a bit.

Telamon wrote:

I bought it from the creators of the news group years ago.
Basically
the
document was a bill of sale or sales agreement, which effected
the
transfer of ownership. It has turned out to be a very good
deal
for
me
except for a few people I have to put up with.

Telamon, thanks for the response; however, your brief
explanation
generated more questions than it answered.

First, you say your "bill of sale or sales agreement" is a "
*transfer*
of ownership". Fair enough. That explains the 'transfer' part.
But
you
did not address how it is actually *owned* in the first place,
either
by
you or others. Are you saying that if I started a news group on
some
topic, that I would own it and then could actually sell it to
someone
else at a later date? How would I prove my ownership to
potential
buyers? Once they bought it, how would they prove to others that
they
are now the new owners?

Is there something like a "Registrar of Deeds" of news groups or
some
kind of equivalent to the Secretary of State for car titles
where
one
can actually look up news group ownership? Is there some kind of
web
site where we can view a list of the owners of various
newsgroups?
Reference(s) please.

Care to explain why you need more than one handle?
