Default Vertical or Longwire

I have a 40 foot long wire running NE/SW. If I wrapped it around a
broomstick and used it that way, would it be better? Kind of like a
MW ferrite rod?

Think of a 40 Foot Straight Wire Antenna as having
a larger signal capture area of 40 Square Feet
-tbl- Generates More RF Signal and is Outside the
House and up-in the Air for Less Noise.

Think of an 4~8 Foot BroomStick Antenna as having
a smaller signal capture area of 4~8 Square Feet.
-tbl- Generates Less RF Signal and is Inside the
House and Indoors for More Noise.

For All Practial Purposes [FAPP] - Except for some
very specific Resonant Frequencies related to the
Size+Number+Length of the Coils of Wire on the
BroomStick : A BroomStick Antenna functions like
a Metal Tube {Pipe} having the Diameter and Length
of the Wire that is 'wraped' around it.

Not Really and only for a very 'limited' Frequency Range.

TIP - It would be better to consider an Improved
Random Wire Antenna shaped in the form of an
Inverted "L" using a Ground Rod at the Feed-Point
along with a Matching Transformer and Coax Cable
feed-in-line.

hope this helps - iane ~ RHF {pomkia}
