Yes, you do everything possible to emphasize your own
superiority....You must be compensating for very low self-esteem.

I had no such intention. I was literally thinking out loud, nothing
more. You may be projecting, Sigmund.

SDR is what's superior, to be sure.

Uh, Dave, isn't an SDR a receive-only radio? You avoid those, right?

No. There are several SDR transceivers; I am lucky enough to own one.
If I had a lot of money I'd get this one:

I may not agree much with Dave but he is a good guy in my book. He gave
me a good deal on a Drake R8B.

Thanks again Dave!

The pleasure was all mine. The Ten-Tec provides countless hours of fun;
the Drake would usually stay parked on the Coast Guard.

Shortwave radio enthusiasts have a right to enjoy a newsgroup
which was established for them and is supposed to be dedicated to
shortwave radio information.

And they have a right to do so without wading through all the off
topic garbage you post and it isn't incumbent upon them to filter
obnoxious morons like you out, also many don't have the capability to
do so.

Start behaving like a responsible adult and filter yourself by posting
your nonsense in the appropriate newsgroups. .

Stop being a retard and make an on topic post yourself.

No, not at all; there are several SDR ham transceivers -- Ten Tec and
Flex Radio being two notable examples.

Well, I respect you enough, Telamon, to reconsider my judgement on
Dave. But to be honest, I consider myself from the left-most fringe of
the Democratic party and he makes me cringe! When I combine his pro-
anarchy politics with his constant shilling of IBOC and pronouncements
that "shortwave is dead," it's usually hard to give him much
credibility.

But, I'll try to be think about it a little more.

MWB,

Yes 'Dave' does exhibit the "Cringe" Factor
from time to time.

And let's not forget that 'Dave' is "SPECIAL" too!

Note - That there are about 54
Dave/DaviD "SPECIAL" Postings.

Plus 'Dave' has a way with words also :
* "Most of all, kill CNBC."
* "Churches should be taxed into extinction.
They are evil."
* "George Bush is a mega-terrorist."
* "Marriage is a ridiculous cult practice"
* "The War on Terror is total bull****."
* "I got yer God... in my PANTS!"
* "Sieg Heil! Y'all!"
* "I am an atheist, not an elitist."
* "Religion is bull**** with a big shiny ribbon on it."
* "My dad was an asshole"
Note - That there are about 343
"Dave/DaviD -proclaims-" Postings.

Unfortunately we also have our share of
sociopaths that post here that just generate noise.

Tela-trud is complaining about *other* posters' being sociopaths?

Now THATS funny!

Tela-twit takes no responsibility for any of the 'noise' in this newsgroup?
He's the one that started the kindling and blew on it.

Pot, meet kettle.

If Telamon behaved himself....then we wouldn't have half the noise we see
here.

Don't worry about me worry about yourself toilet breath.

I live in Ontario, Canada. *My goal is to listen to daytime SW
broadcasts beamed to Africa by the likes of BBC, DW, VOA, RNW, etc.

Right now I have a Sony 7600GR with a few indoor antennas (reel
antenna, ANLP1, etc.). *With this equipment it's difficult to get good
reception of these daytime signals.

I plan to install a wire antenna (around 30 feet long), either
outdoors along my 5.5' high wooden fence (I live in the suburbs) or in
my attic.

Will a Sony portable and an outdoor/attic wire be enough to get
consistently good reception of these stations? *Or should I get a
better receiver?

If so, what receiver should I buy?

Portable choices:
Sangean ATS-909 (I hear it can handle long antennas)
Eton E1XM

Tabletop choices:
Icom R75
Icom R1500
used Kenwood, Yaesu, etc. (ebay)

PC-controlled choices
Ten Tec Rx-320D

The Icom R75 is a little pricy for me ($700 here in Canada). But if it
is that much better than say, the Eton E1 at fishing out these
broadcast signals then I will seriously consider it.

I'm also a little afraid of buying a PC receiver because I live in a
noisy RF environment. *(I like the thought of receiving DRM, though!)

Thanks!

It's all to do with having the best antenna you can rig up on your
suburban lot. There are many variations of wire antenna's to try in an
inexpensive experiment, If that doesn't work there are a whole lot of
options on excellent active antenna's.

One of the best combo's is a simple outside wire antenna connected to
the MFJ 1020C as recommended in Passport 2009. Try that before you go
spending big bucks.

This thing looks quite promising, other than the fact you have to have
(yech) Windows to run it:

Oh joy. *Turns out this will work on Linux. *Temptation rears its ugly head.

"ActiveX"?

Sounds like a special ingredient in washing powder.

The SDR-IQ runs on Linux, per the web site.
