This is a newsgroup on Usenet, a throwback to the days when the Internet had recently hatched from its origins in ARPANet and was mostly inhabited by government employees and people at colleges and universities (i.e. .gov and .edu users). Does anybody screen the hundreds of OT posts about politics and hucksters trying to sell their junk? No. It is possible for users to do this themselves using a proper news reader application and filtering. As far as I know, it is not possible for WebTV users to accomplish this. Where are all the ecellent technical posts about radio repair, QSL's, program highlights, reciever discussions and opnions and reminiscing? Antenna for SWL, Ham and BC? Backyard antennas, shack photos? Manual swaps? This place looks like CB sounds like anymore. Yes, well, this is what happens when the intelligent people get tired of the morons. The intelligent people find somewhere else to go, leaving the morons behind to continue their fine traditions. It's also what happens when outfits like AOL and, later, Google decide to create proprietary implementations of Usenet, ignoring conventions such as NNTP in favor of their own concoctions, and then throw access open to the masses without implementing any means of controlling the drivel they post - thereby making it possible for morons to pollute the newsgroups with impunity. And now we have WebTV, the new AOL. Nothing personal, and no offense meant - for all I know you may be as dedicated to the radio arts as I am, and perhaps even moreso. If that's the case - the problem is that for every person like you, there's fifty who wouldn't know Universal Serial Bus from Upper Sideband and spend their time mostly forwarding junk mail to anyone who is unfortunate enough to have their e-mail address fall into the hands of one of these cretins. If you've ever received an e-mail that begins with several screenfuls of e-mail addresses belonging to people you've never heard of, you know exactly what I'm referring to; If you have ever actually forwarded one to someone else, may the fleas of a thousand camels infest your genitalia. And now if you'll excuse me, I need to go dig out my list of frequencies for NTSB. Somebody crash-landed an airplane into somebody's living room here last night, well within scanner range. ?
