The best use for the energy efficient bulbs are ones that are not switched on/off often and are mounted upright. That eliminates most uses. A better system would be low voltage quartz or LED type lighting but that takes rewiring the house. Incandescent bulbs release way more mercury than the occasional broken CFL. I turn mine on and off just like any other lamp; no ill effects. I use them vertically, horizontally, and at various angles in-between. Again, no ill effects. There are LED lamps that run on 110 VAC. |
