Default HD Radio is done, and so are music-oriented FM stations.

"NAB backs royalty study"

"Radio is under pressure to negotiate with record labels now. It
remains to be seen whether this move puts the performance royalty on
the backburner for months. But the NAB is backing a proposed
congressional economic-impact study on the proposal. Music First
spokesman Marty Machowski says the debate is no longer about whether a
royalty should be adopted, but if lawmakers should wait for a study’s
outcome before moving forward."

We'll see a flip on FM to AMs' successful news/talk/sports formats.
The royalties ARE going to happen - LOL, Eduardo!

All they have to do is quit playing the crap the major labels put out,
and get a bunch of locals and independents to fill the void. Now we're
getting somewhere.

"Bonneville pulls iChannel Music"

"Bonneville has pulled the plug on its iChannel Music HD Network and
streaming. For the most part, it has replaced the HD multicast with
WorldBand Media content (brokered ethnic programming). iChannel
allowed indie bands to upload their music online for consideration...
We commend Bonneville for giving it a shot—it allowed radio to expose
a lot of new, unsigned indie bands from around the world. CC Radio's
eRockster HD2 format is still around at a good handful of stations and
still outstanding. If that gets shuttered, a good bunch of us just
might be done with HD Radio listening altoghether."

That was tried and failed on HD Radio - LOL!

It did not fail... someone came and offered money to use the HD2, vs no
money for the indie channel.

"CC Radio’s Format Lab gone?"
November 2008

"So bottom line, the Format Lab is no longer available on the web and
has cut some of its formats down to the most successful/desirable. The
www.iHeartMusic.com website seems to only list the main audio streams
of CC stations--not multicast HD formats--but does offer a few off to
the side: erockster; Pride; Verizon New Music; Smooth Jazz; Real
Oldies; Slow Jams and New Country. There used to be something close to
100 formats listed on the site."

http://www.rbr.com/radio/11252.html

Format Lab was also a failure.

Format Lab was also a failure.

It was a total success. The object was to develop many formats, and cull out
the dogs based on Internet usage. The best would go on HD2 channels, and
when finished, the "Lab" would have achieved its objective, and close.

Oops PocketRadio - Bonneville just turn a Dozen
or so non-profitable HD-2 Channels into Profitable
HD-2 Channels --- Sure Sounds Like Good News
for FM HD-Radio and the real 'potential' for extra
Income Streams from HD-2 Channels.

Oh yea - Hindi formats are a real big hit. And those Hispanic
Christian accounts are big movers as well.
I'm sure Hispanics are purchasing those $250 HD radios by the dozens.

No, they are buying by the thousands. One single LA church sold over 300 on
one Sunday following a presentation after services.

Christian accounts are big movers, as they only advertise on Christian
staitons. A big example is KLTY in Dallas,

Eduardo that's just B.S. - last-ditch efforts in an attempt to get ANY
consumer interest in hd radio. Sorry but, it's going to take more
than that for Struble to claim victory. Where I live, hd radio is an
on-again, off-again proposition - not a good sign.

Can't wait for the Hindi formats to hit the big time here.

It's a niche, and produces lots of revenue for Emmis that it would not have
had.

Completing sentence... KLTY in Dallas which is the #6 station in billing in
a 68 station market, and they are Contemporary Christian and a large
percentage of revenue is from Christian accounts.
