Heck, every AM gets occasional interference; I recall numerous times
hearing Venezuela on 1-A Clear Channel 1100 in early evenings over
WKYC (now WTAM) even though I was about 12 miles from the WTAM
transmitter. That's one of the reasons AM has so little appeal to the
generations that grew up on FM... interference, noise, static, lousy
audio quality.

Most people have no idea what "audio quality" means.

They can certainly tell the difference between AM and FM. That is why
nearly nobody under 50 or 55 listens to AM.

Doubtful. How do you know the 30-somethings aren't merely avoiding your
surveyors at the mall or on street corners. Maybe people who listen to
AM radio don't go to the mall.

Eduardo - I live in Butler county, PA. WBZ has a very huge and
impressive signal here due to their very efficient antenna and ground
system in Boston. The adjacent noise created by their hd signal is
clearly and consistantly heard under KDKA amost every night. So, tell
me again why this is not a problem. It clealy is a problem to me.

KDKA is nearly dead, with an FM news talker beating it in the sales demos.
You are probably one of the few who cares.

And, if you are in the northern part of your county, you probably have the
first vestiges of skywave cancellation, which is more of a problem than WBZ
anyway.

WBZ has no more nor no less efficiency than any station with a 1/2 wave
tower system What is different is that BZ is directional, with nearly no
power to the east and a lot of it to the west.

Eduardo - It wouldn't matter where I lived to you. If I lived on top
of the KDKA tower and WBZ still interfered you'd have an explanation
for that. One more question though - How do you live with yourself?

-sort-of- Looks like more to the East
and less to the West.

Ya ****in' ditz, it goes farther over water. Pattern is classic West
facing cardioid.

Another thing Eduardo - WBZ went full time hd when it was authorized
back in November and since then they've started filling more and more
air-time hours with useless info-mertials and other pre-recorded junk.
Boston is a big radio town with lots of hd radio listeners (I
thought). What's going on here? Hd was going to save the U.S. radio
world.

Now you'll tell me that info-mertial listenership has gone up 150%
since November and it's an up-and-coming format like Hindi radio or
Hispanic evangelical junk.

1. We are in a recession. Traditional revenue is of 30% to 40% in the large
markets.
2. Nights have not been an important time to AM since the late 50's.
3. Not HD, not anything, can save AM now that the only mass appeal viable
format, talk, is moving to FM.

Now you'll tell me that info-mertial listenership has gone up 150%

It does not matter what a station does after 8 or 9 PM. If they can make
money selling time, all the better in this moment.

So, if the cost of a radio station goes down, will you finally purchase one,

In Wash., D.C, WBZ always comes in very clearly, and so does its
sideband hash.

DC is west of Boston... SSW, of course, but to the west. WBZ's null is at
90 degrees, and the peak power is from about 160 degrees to 30 degrees.
