Your credentials please? ;-) Read the forth paragraphhttp://www.fas.org/nuke/intro/nuke/emp.htm -- Operator Bob Echo Charlie 42 The key word there is "tend." I hope neither of us ever find out. I saw on either the history or military channel....probably military channel, a gentleman (don't know his credentials) explained what would happen if there was an EMP blast and then explained what damage would occur depending on the altitude at which the bomb exploded. At one of the levels he said what many of us have heard at one time or another, that anything with updated technology would be fried. He did say that older technology "would more than likely" not be affected. Hope we never find out. You can find any number of hysterical alarmists and conspiracy theorists that would agree with him, and likely have just as ethereal credentials.. FWIW: I live in SoCal (a prime military target zone) and am not worried.. I'm much more worried about those howling rabid chupacabras just outside the back door, gnawing on my coax g We have abandoned Nike bases to remind us that the madness has always been with us.- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - That was cool that you said that, the Nike Bases. Me and a friend maybe back in 94-95 "unexpectedly" drove into one around 4am. We taped running into this property out in Felicity, Ohio (I was in my "fun car" with 6 antennas on it). Pretty wild night, I saw these big....like an upside down J.....spaced out and coming out of the ground and I said "Those are vents for something underground".....make a long story short - - after doing a search on the internet - - found out that the property was once a Nike Missile Base. The friend that was with me later on went back out there and the owner of the property actually took him wayyyy under ground and showed him around. I remember my dad telling me back then that hardly anyone he knew believed that there was underground Nike Missile Bases. They were thought of as "nuts".....maybe even "kooks".....lol.rolling my eyes Indeed yearssss later we now know there was missiles stored underground. Thank god we now have the internet to archive those stupids kooks. Those silly stupid kooks back then actually thought there were missiles stored underground all over the United States...lol. ;-) Gotta love human behavior. |

Just a lot of vents and a structure that had an elevator that you hand pulled or released to go down into where the missiles were stored. My friend estimated anywhere from twenty to thirty feet underground, who knows. That plot of land is now privately owned the last time I checked, someone sure has a good bunker for them or family. |

The only clue was the old tattered remnants of an old military style guardshack at the entrance for lack of a better word. If you didn't know that at one time it was a military base you wouldn't have had a clue till you (if you noticed them like I did) saw the underground vents spaced throughout the land. You can type into Google - - Felicity Nike Missile Base and then zoom over the property and see it. |
