Stations will tire of the yearly fees for HD channels to iBiquity,
with no possible ROI.

The fees are quite minimal, and with the possibility of the Zune having HD
(and it's effect on possible iPod enabled devices), there will be renewed
interest.

As I was tuning the MW band on a couple of receivers last night, I
noticed far less IBOC hash across the bands. Most significantly, local
WHAS has it turned off, enabling clear reception of KOA and WCCO - two
of my favorites.

I like Rick Barber. Apparently Clear Channel is joining Citadel and
stopping the madness at night.

Nope... just running on the aux transmitter due to some issues with
the main.

WHAS? KFI? Both?

(btw, "nope" isn't really a word.)

That's OK Dave. (Davy Eddies not a real person).

That's a funny comment but he did appear real to me when I met him.

The Zune has only 4% of the MP3 market-place - LOL! Besides, the HD
chipsets still are way to power-hungry. What are they going to use for
antenas - the headphones - LOL! This is still rumor, probably fueled
by iBiquity and the HD Alliance.

If you check the FCC's database only 1,700+ have converted:

The FCC database is notoriously inaccurate. Since no permit is required to
commence HD broadcasts, some stations have failed to notify and other
notifications have not been processed or posted.

"Have 200 HD Radio stations gone missing?"

"The HD Radio camp is advertising that there are currently over 1,500
radio stations now broadcasting in HD (from its website, to press
releases as well as in various other promotions)... but yet only 1,300
have filed with the FCC."

Right! Same problem since Oct. 2007 - LOL!

I sure hope KFI keeps it off.

KFI has been having some problems with the new Nautel transmitter, and is
using the DX 50 instead; it's not HD equipped. The HD will be back when the
issues are resolved.

I hope they don't turn the HD back on.

The signal level looks like it dropped a little.

Is the backup transmitter on the same antenna?

Clear Channel's West Coast flagship station has no competent engineering
staff? Jesus Gawd, theyve been ****ed-up for YEARS!!!

If it's an MW-50, it should be an "alternate main", and should be able
to be connected with the real tower.

New model transmitters often have design issues that only show up in the
field... it's possible part of it even had to go back to the Maritimes for
modification. Unless they issue a press release, which is unlikely for a
technical issue, we won't know exactly what is at the cause.

This is why stations have auxiliary transmitters and even, in the case of
KFI, auxiliary antennas.

Clear Channel's West Coast flagship station is KIIS, not KFI. It might even
be said that KIIS is the entire company's flagship station.
