A reminder to all that tomorrow is June 6, the 65th Anniversary of what author
Stephen E. Ambrose described as "The Climactic Battle of World War II."

Take a moment to remember those who hit the beaches, rode in gliders, parachuted
in, and all who provided support on that glorious morning.

War is retarded.

Duh, while I'm not fan of miltaristic colonialism, I hardly think that
we were responsible for Hitler. Hitler did break dozens of threaties
that were negotiated during the 1930's. Hitler was firbombing London.
Hitler had to be taken out. I don't condemn FDR for not seeking on-
going negotiations with either Hitler or Hirohito.

The best thing about climate change is that it may unite us around a
cause bigger than our egos.-

Uh, so would alien invasion or an impending asteroid impact. I sure
hope we don't have to wait for any of these things before we see a
little global unity.

Pacifism, carried to an extreme, can be a little silly.

Hitler was helped by very prominent Americans such as Henry Ford,
Charles Lindbergh and Prescott Bush. We all share in the ignonimity for
ignoring the plight of others until it got to be too late.

Well, I'm tickled to see you report that. I've posted many times in
this newsgroup that historical analysis will suggest that right-wing
American industrialists, specifically including the ones you mention,
had far more to do with Hitler's rise than did any left-wing socialist
groups.

Why does that convey a responsibility for the violence of WW2 on OUR
backs? Am I accountable for the actions of Henry Ford?

Please don't disrespect the courage of these brave souls on this day.

It is not logical to attribute to a small group of industrialists the
failings of our country and politicians to head Hiller off earlier.

Again I am awed by their bravery and willingness to face probable death
taking those beaches and cliffs.

I hope the 20th Century will go down as the most violent in human history.

Ford was largely responsible for expanding the German industrial base
which was instrumental in Hitler's war effort. Ford was looking for
cheaper labor, but those plants were quickly converted to roll out
tanks.

Lindbergh was a paid consultant to the Germans, helping them set up
the Luftwaffe. He was enamored by their Spartan-like military
discipline.

I challenge anyone to show how any left-wing groups had anything to do
in supporting Hitler.

The American industrialists were helping rebuild a Germany recovering
from WW1. Not satisfied with that Hitler derailed that whole process of
nation rebuilding into building an army in an expansionist move not
unlike what happened to us with Saddam Hussein in Iraq. The Germans were
able to prosecute the war as they saw fit because we as a nation did not
stop them once Hitlers war plans were put in motion. We almost waited to
long to win that war and many more American soldiers died because of
that and europe paid a heavy price.

I just watched Defiance and I highly recommend it.
