I live in, what I call, the poor side of Summerlin. I'm not sure
about the Mountains interfering with DX. But I find that very few
signals these days are beamed to Northwest USA. Even stations that
relay from Sackville, NB Canada mostly target Eastern USA so reception
is not so great here. I'm a condo dweller and can't have an outdoor
antenna which makes DXing harder. As for that big hole you speak of,
yeah, we have that here. It's the hole Las Vegas is in due to our
slumping economy.
