People are people and they're often interested in politics and post
off-topic to this group. You'll encounter that in lots of groups, not
just this one.

This group was at one time dedicated to the SWL hobby. It's focus is
now the business-side of commercial radio broadcasting. If you're
interested in learning about the business of commercial radio, the HD
boondoggle, etc., then there's lots of discussion of those things
here. If you're interested in shortwave listening, antennas or any of
the technical aspects of the SWL hobby, you'd be better served by some
other group.

Such as...

The group is about (among other things)wireless communications, from DC
to daylight. Quite a few people here are BCB DXers. Since the 'Dwardos
of the world want to ruin the bands with interference, there is a lively
discussion on how corporate America is incapable of doing good radio.

I highly reccommend the book. Lots of geeky stuff in it since it is

I found a downloadable pdf version and agree it's an interesting read.
Since I'm of the cold war era, it was all relevant and memorable.
Thanks for the recommendation.

You are in the wrong group. Shortwave radio is rarely discussed here
anymore except by a few die-hards. John Plimmer's reports on MWDX around
the world are the only thing that keeps me subscribing.

I don't care about Ibiquity or IBOC, or 'Dwardo. I read John's great posts
about MWDX, some of the new guys who are actually dx'ing(the guy from
Vegas), and a few others. Like the radio reviews from the people who
actually want to talk radios, but then there are the other groups for that:
antique radio+phono, boatanchors, etc. That is where the real radio guys
hang out.

Correct you are. It's really unreadable due to the politics and
spammers.

Do you forego SWL listening because of a little noise,
or try to filter it out and carry on?
Don't be a wuss, use a killfilter, it's what they're for.

Kill-files fill up faster than a gas tank! My kill-files are larger than
the real posts from some groups.

What did you do? Cut and paste the Wall Street Journal? Barron's? Forbes?
Why don't you tell us what you heard on the SW/MW Band? That would be
interesting!

Pull your head out! and get your ass off of this group if you
have anything to discuss other than shortwave radio! Be a man
and see how long you last in a political discussion group
fairly represented by ALL parties. Of course you won't,
you haven't the brains or the guts!

Just get him, and you, to stick to radios, SW/MW DX and we'll all be happy.
Politics is like pounding sand, just fills back in and you can't tell where
you did it.

Most of these clowns don't look at the thread topics that they post this crap in! Maybe they can't read,or just have no idea of the in's and out's of posting but this has been going on here since 2006 when I became a reader. It will only change if other readers stand up and post against these morons until they stop! If every time they post a martha stewart recipe or advertise viagra in RADIOBANTER.COM that 20 other posters jump their a** for it and embarrass them, then maybe they'll wise up!

If they're real spooks, they can come get me
til then I'll keep enjoying the book.

Lots of good stuff out there with a bit of searching,
and the fact that someone bothered to scan it into an ebook
is a testament to its worth.

gotta go service my dead drop now ;-)

When you do a brush pass, resist the urge to do an elbow bump. Have
you finished your jack in the box for use in the carpool lane?

They never explained how "the thing" works. It looks to me that the
sound vibration detunes the antenna a bit, altering the antenna gain,
making the signal amplitude modulate.
