Not me. Only time I ever went was once in the 80s. It was an immense disappointment and way over-rated. The local fests are far better for many reasons. It's amazingly become a religion with some guys but I think they really just want to get away from home for a day or so. Neat hamfest? No. Fat men and masculine women wearing stupid callsign baseball caps and computer crap? Yes. Clive, it's "fat-unwashed-men", and scary women. I know where your coming from. I always have fair luck at the bigger fest. but, i'm a collector, so it's a bit different for me. the local fest means a bag full of small parts, and a few less orders from mouser. also a good BS session with some old friends, and bad coffee. Nowadays it's just a little place outside Carson City, with a neat set of stamp mill ruins and a fascinating cemetery full of dead miners from 120 years ago. Bruce Jensen |

Anderson,South Carolina was the first City in the South to have
continous electricity. http://www.hmdb.org/marker.asp?marker=10693 Howsoever, before that and before any Cities up North had continous electricity, electricity was only available for two or three hours in the evenings. The old electricity power plant in Buffalo,New York was restored years ago for the tourist people to look at. I don't know when Mississippi first had electricity. The big old house where I was born in Carthage was built by my grandfather and his brother back in the early 1900s.That house was the first house in Carthage to have electricity, we had indoor plumbing too.I remember the old style twisted insulated wires and the white porcelain insulators.Back in the 1970's, I disconnected the double row push button light switch that was in the hallway by the front door.(nobody was living there anymore) I brought that old light switch home with me, I still have that old light switch right here. cuhulin |
