Last week I went on safari to a spectacular game ranch with my trusty
Redsun RP2100 (same as CCradio=SW) and the tiny little Grundig G8. The game viewing was marvellous and radio reception was good. See: http://www.sanbona.com/properties/default.asp Stations heard on the RP2100 we- 1521,1512 & 1440 Saudi Arabia 1557 Nice France (8700 km's/5400 miles away) 1377 R. Free Afrika Tanzania 1296 Sudan 1170 R Sawa Al Dubbiya UAE SW great reception of English service of BBC, Deutsche Welle & R. Nederland Great FM reception of the Ladismith station 160km/100miles away The RP2100 is frankly the best portable I have ever used, and that includes a Sony 2010. For fifty bucks the tiny little Grundig G8 is also an good performer. Anyone who would like to see my game pictures can request them at plimmer at telkomsa dot net Good DX and have fun John Plimmer, Montagu, Cape Province, South Africa South 33 d 47 m 32 s, East 20 d 07 m 32 s Icom IC-7600, Perseus SDR ERGO software Drake SW8. A few of the users seem to have gotten poor workmanship. Those that had good sets were very happy. http://www.eham.net/reviews/detail/6...h1jf1m2m2m5qq4 Or, for those blessed with Window's 'ruin the URL' feature, the same link: http://tinyurl.com/2ur28o9 mike |

One must remember, as I'm certain John might agree, is that where he is located, the MW band is not so severely congested, which enables him, and others to pick up those exotic catches. dxAce Michigan USA- Yes, the MW band is quite open and MW DXing is great fun, especially from one of our great DXpedition sites on the coast. Going to Jongensgat in mid September and taking the Kiwa MW Loop which now seems to be working again. JP |

How easy is it for you to hear Australia & the Pacific, or South America? What's your best MW catch (distance vs power) so far? Kind of reminds me of when I was stationed at Andersen AFB on Guam. Sometimes MW DX would pour in from east Asia (Japan, China, Russia, Phillipines, etc.). However, there was always a lot of static from the seemingly ever-present tropical Pacific thunderstorms. I can sometimes hear France-1557 and Arabia-1521 here in Ohio. Is that Arabian on 1521 really running 2 megawatts? Do you know if it's pattern is directional? |

JP John, vary cool. great to hear the Kiwa is working again. you might want to check your cables and connectors. the loop is just too good - to just sit on a s'h'elf somewhere. Drifter... Agreed the the Kiwa MW Loop Antenna http://www.universal-radio.com/used/u685lrg.jpg should be Used and put to good use. ~ RHF http://www.universal-radio.com/used/sold051.html But sitting the 'imposing' Kiwa MW Loop Antenna on a nice wooden Shelf in the Radio Shack a foot above the Radios http://www.eham.net/reviews/detail/2275 -or- on a wooden table a foot or two away from the Receivers -are- both nice places to locate the Kiwa so that you can use the Loop with the Radio/Recivers http://www.kiwa.com/proceed.html |
