Any list which has pakistan as being less corrupt that USA has real
problems with credibility! Not to mention all the other countries with
dictators which are listed as less corrupt ...

I think the blue bar is confusing. I'm pretty sure Finland is less
corrupt than Chad.

Nope - 10 is *best*, 0 is totally hopelessly messed up. Read the
legend at the bottom, all will become clear. U.S. is in the best 11%
of the list.

Misreading things like this, and repeating them, is what makes vicious
and untrue rumors start until almost everyone accepts the lies as
truth. Please be careful.

Bruce, 10 is best under "Amount" but 1 is the best under "Rank"

DEFINITION: A CPI Score relates to perceptions of the degree of corruption
as seen by business people and country analysts and ranges between 10
(highly clean) and 0 (highly corrupt). Includes police corruption, business
corruption, political corruption, etc. Data for 2005.

Re-read and look.

What's to reread? We (the US) came in 17th from the best...but over
130 from the bottom. I already read all that you just posted. I'd
still like to see the methodology, and an objective rating of how
reliable and evenly qualified across the board the sources were.

I stand by my original comments. The top 11% is a lot better than it
could have been.

Well, I did not write that - but all things being equal, I think he's
right. Pakistan is a wreck, as are most 3rd world nations. Latin
American nations' governments practically define the word corruption -
and I know lots of folks from Brazil and Central America who will give
you an earful. They love the U.S. for its far better and less corrupt
government.

If one reads the legend at the bottom, one will see that the higher
the score (out of 10), the less corrupt a nation is. The top of the
chart is less corrupt, the bottom (Chad) the worst. The U.S. actually
scores pretty well, all things considered.

I would also very much like to understand how the scoring, by business
leaders and another poorly defined group, is actually accomplished.
In other words, no matter what the scores say, take this with a VERY
BIG grain of salt until you better understand the methodology.
