More and more U.S.States are going back to dirt/gravel roads, because
they are cheaper to maintain.

I remember dirt roads,,, QUICK!, roll the windows up! That was before
auto airconditioning came along, for most cars. That gravel is real good
for cracking windshields too, and the mud, when it rains. Those flat
plate windshields would blind you too, when the Sun catches them just
right.I always liked it when a piece of gravel would get in a hubcap.

Ain't no mud on Batman's cape, he can run faster than a spotted
ape,,,,,,

Hmmm...we the people don't like taxes?

I'll bet they -do- like having EMS come when a family member is ill or
having the fire department show up when their house is on fire or
driving on a paved road, not a dirt two track.

Maybe the people that dislike taxes think all these services are free.

EMS and Fire Dept. have been combined here, ever since Giuliani days.
And if,God forbid, one needs an ambulance a very hefty bill is sent
instantly. I'm not kidding. The local gov't is unable to support
itself and lots of services have been cut. Police Dept is next. The
only cops we'll see in the future will be on the television. Really.

If only that were true.

As ever,

Thank you for supporting my point, which was that services are NOT FREE.
Either you get billed directly (in your case) or we pay for it by taxes
(in my case). Either way, NOT free.

Sad but true. Things you describe are just as bad all over the
country...and it started with that wonderful thing called
"globalization". Once we started shipping out our jobs to people willing
to work for 50 cents an hour, that was the beginning of the end of
American life as we knew it (and it ain't over, the worst is yet to come).

Ross Perot warned us about that giant sucking sound but sadly, most
didn't believe him.
