I have had 20+ LED Lights for 120-VAC
with the Standard USA E27-Base.

Only 4~6 have lasted more than a Year
with out going blank or loosing half the
individual LEDs in the Bulbs.

Some of these LEDs cost in the $20~$30

IMHO - LEDs are still : Not Ready for Prime Time.

These Mushroom CFLs rated at 120 Watts Light

LEDs don't seem very cost effective, and the energy usage seems
comparable to CFLs.

Rough 100 Watt Power Light Output Equivalents :

Old Incandescent Bulb Watts = 100 {Cost $1}

New CFL Bulb Watts = 26 : {Cost $4 ~ 4X}
INC to CFL 4:1

LED Bulb Claim Watts = 11 : {Cost $25 ~ 25X}
INC to LED 9:1
CFL to LED 2:1

IMHO - Currently The Best Bang For The Buck :
Is The CFL Bulb :
* Relative Initial Cost to Buy the 1st Bulb
* Longer Service Life and fewer Bulb Replacements
* * CFL Life = 13 INCs ~ 1-CFL = 1/3 of INC Total
* Fewer Watts Used per Hour/Month/Year/LC
Lower Energy Cost over it Total Life-Cycle

These Spiral {Mushroom} CFLs rated at
120 Watts Light Output {=Lumens} and use

I'll buy that - I think LEDs will be ubiquitous in the future, and

I bought some LED spotlights for our back path. Run on three "D" cells, IR

LIBERAL FASCISTS can't, won't stop with just incandescent bulbs...

Assistant Secretary of Energy Cathy [www.masterbationtoday.com] Zoi
said Thursday that the U.S. Department of Energy has a “mandate” to
issue regulations to determine what household appliances are available
to Americans in the future.

Speaking at the inaugural meeting of the recently reestablished
Secretary of Energy Advisory Board (SEAB), Zoi pointed to four tactics
the Obama administration intended use to advance the “deployment of
clean energy.” The first three were government subsidies for private-
sector green energy projects, special tax incentives for green energy
projects and low-interest government-backed loans for green energy
projects.

“The fourth one, which the secretary and I love,” said Zoi, “is where
we have a mandate. Where we can actually just issue regulations and do
market transformation.”

[...]

Before becoming President Barack Obama’s assistant secretary of energy
for energy efficiency and renewable energy, Zoi served as
environmental adviser to President Bill Clinton and the founding CEO
of former Vice President Al Gore’s Alliance for Climate Protection.

Zoi said that stricter federal energy efficiency standards will “drive
innovation” and are “cost effective.”

“As the secretary [Chu] says, ‘We’re going to MAKE [by Liberal Fascist
force] people save money for themselves,’” Zoi said. “They haven’t
dumped the dollar bills on the ground yet.”

I have a series of 5 watt cree leds on a large aquarium. The plants
grow like crazy. 60 watts of leds seem noticeably brighter than the 160
watts of fluorescent they replaced ... the leds have already come down
in cost since I purchased mine over a year ago ... the focus of the leds
allow the light to used more efficiently, with the fluorescent, a lot of
light was lost out the sides and ends ...

My only concern with LEDs, and this is partly selfish, is that their
spectra are often very broadband and have strong spikes in the blue-
green region. For an amateur astronomer trying to avoid light
pollution, this presents some problems - astro objects often glow in
this region of the spectrum; human vision in the dark is best in this
region of the spectrum; and eyepiece filters used to control light
pollution usually pass wavelengths in this region of the spectrum.
Consequently, LEDs are in direct conflict with good views of deep-sky
objects, and the glow from these devices are nearly impossible to
overcome using filtration. This was not the case with most other
light devices, excepting things like brilliant blue halogen lamps.
Incandescent light, in particular, is easy to filter, as are many
ordinary fluorescent wavelengths.

Saves in the size of the Copper Wiring and
Reduces the Weight of the Car/Truck :

Before becoming President Barack Obama’s assistant secretary of energy
for energy efficiency and renewable energy, Zoi served as
environmental adviser to President Bill Clinton and the founding CEO

Zoi said that stricter federal energy efficiency standards will “drive

DENVER -- Sen. Barack Obama's campaign organized its supporters
Wednesday night to confront Tribune-owned WGN-AM in Chicago for having
a critic of the Illinois Democrat on its air.

"WGN radio is giving right-wing hatchet man Stanley Kurtz a forum to
air his baseless, fear-mongering terrorist smears," Obama's campaign
wrote in an e-mail to supporters. "He's currently scheduled to spend a
solid two-hour block from 9:00 to 11:00 p.m. pushing lies,
distortions, and manipulations about Barack and University of Illinois
professor William Ayers."

Kurtz, a conservative writer, recently wrote an article for the
National Review that looked at Obama's ties to Ayers, a former 1960s
radical who later emerged as a school reform advocate in Chicago.

The magazine had been blocked in its initial attempts to obtain
records from the University of Illinois at Chicago regarding a school
reform initiative called the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, which Obama
chaired and Ayers co-founded.

Obama critics were quick to suggest that political clout could be
involved in seeking to protect Obama from embarrassment. The school
later reserved its position and made the records available Tuesday.

On Wednesday evening, Obama's campaign urged supporters to call the
radio station to complain.

"Tell WGN that by providing Kurtz with airtime, they are legitimizing
baseless attacks from a smear-merchant and lowering the standards of
political discourse," the note said.

"It is absolutely unacceptable that WGN would give a slimy character
assassin like Kurtz time for his divisive, destructive ranting on our
public airwaves," the note continued. "At the very least, they should
offer sane, honest rebuttal to every one of Kurtz's lies."

Zack Christenson, executive producer of "Extension 720 with Milt
Rosenburg," said the response was strong.

"I would say this is the biggest response we've ever got from a
campaign or a candidate," he said. "This is really unprecedented with
the show, the way that people are flooding the calls and our email
boxes."

Christenson said the Obama campaign was asked to have someone appear
on the show and declined the request.

"He got into the files just yesterday, so we wanted to have him on to
find out what he found. And, if at all possible, we wanted to get the
Obama campaign, to get their side of the story," Christenson said.
"That's why the uproar is kind of amazing, because we wanted the Obama
campaign's take as well."

The show's producer said the calls dropped off after the show's first
hour. He did not have a count of calls, but said it was "non-stop."

Obama's campaign has launched similar offensives against stations that
have run campaign ads that it did not like.

It will do that anyway. Over the decades, I have dropped electricity
usage constantly. Have all efficient appliances and CFL's, fluorescent,
but the electric bill is more than it was years/decades ago ... no
matter what you do, count of using less and paying more.
