The calculation - which misses anyone who is not aplying for or collecting unemployment - is done that way because it has to be - there is no way to keep an actual record other than this statistic without becoming Big Brother. *It's unfortunate but true. *The net result is that is underestimates unemployment in the worst times by a factor of about 100% plus. *In good times that underestimate is still there, but probably a lot less, and more people are rotating in and out of jobs instead of being semi-permanently unemployed, so the true long-term unemployment is closer to zero. Bruce Jensen Most likely, very similar to the "new jobs created." You never see them, you never benefit from them, you don't know anyone who has ever had one ... but to those with a religious belief, they are there! ROFLOL When you think about it, kinda like trying to sell water to a drowning person! Regards, JS Frankly, new jobs are not created until there is a demand for the product or the service. When the general public has no money or is paranoid about where their next meal is coming from, the demand drops precipitously. A vicious cycle with few options to prevent stagnation. |
