Default John, How is MW DX going during your "winter"?

What new equipment have you received lately?
Hope the DX is good,

P.S. When is the next time you will be in Atlanta?

Hi Bob,
Here its the coldest winter for years - the Antarctic storms just keep
sweeping through and my heating bill is horrendous.
DXing is never good in Montagu my home QTH. I await my next DXpedition
to Seefontein on the Atlantic coast in September for some fireworks.
My GE SRIII is still doing sterling work in the kitchen, but it is not
as good as my lovely Redsun RP2100 which is outstanding on MW AM band.
The other morning I got France Lille on 1377 over R. Free Africa in
Mwanza Tanzania - a nice rare catch on the big Icom IC-7600. Nothing
from the US though and very little from S. Amarica either.

I'm on the band every morning but little is coming through his winter.
I also enjoy my little ultralight Grundig G8 which is surprisingly
good for its small size. I sold some equipment the other day and
wanted to get the latest ultralight, but the old ball and chain went
ballistic, so the buks had to go to the common fund.

Went to Atlanta last December, so another visit is not scheduled until
next year. Got to be home next May to celebrate our 50th wedding
anniversary.
Be well Bob and thanks for the call.

John.

Just wondering if the winter static plays havoc on
your DX 1 Pro? I wanted to try one before he stopped
making them, and I waited too long. Good luck on your
next trip. Keep warm.

Hi Drifter,
Winter static is not a problem here - the summer Tropicl storms are,
and the DX1 is better than most in keeping it quiet.
According to a side by side I did with the Wellbrook ALA 1530 it was
quieter than that as well. Every one who visits my shack compliments
me on how quiet the DX1 is. See:
http://www.dxing.info/community/view...hp?f=17&t=2580

As for avalability, RF Systems still carry the DX1 in their shop at
E550, but I do see Universal does not have it at the moment.

Have fun and good DX

Morning John.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, read your reports a while back. I have
been watching the Universal site for this antenna. Universal is about
a 2 hour trip for me, and I'm always looking for a reason to make the
trip there. Here, it's lighting in the summer, and static in the winter.
Love my Wellbrooks, but always collecting info for the next antenna
project. as always, thanks for the info.

Lighting in the summer is understandable, but "static in the winter"???

Are you referring to what is commonly called "precipitation static" that
occurs when snow impinges on your antenna?

Dry Air Electro 'Static' Build-Up as the Wind
moves the Air Across things like your Antenna
Wire and suddenly ZAP! Discharges resulting in
what you hear {would call} 'Static'.

Versus a FOG 'Quiet' where a moist still Ground
Fog can drain-off most of the build-up of ESD
and local Atmospheric Noise is 'nil'.

Porcupine* the Far-End of the Antenna Wire to
reduce the ESD on the Wire itself

Thanks for reminding me. I have a BC344 to take apart. It has some very
nice big air variable capsassitators that I can use to build deranged
receiving loops.
