Yep, saw that during the week. I have a 8711A and a 1000 in the
collection. Don't have a BAE, and thought about it. It was already
marked hold by Wednesday. Looks clean in the picture, someone got
a nice price. Only hole in my Watkins-Johnson run is an 8718A-MFP-10.
Friend Jerry, in Ohio says that's the hardest to find. So, I'm
not holding my breath here, but I can dream. Do have way too many
radios here anyhow. If I ever do get to retire, I may thin the
herd down to just the "Cold-War-Warriors", and part with the
regulars. Yeah, right. If I get hit with a truck my kids are going
make a bunch of money. It's a disease Steve, you know that. I bet
you still got all your Drakes there. Bad conditions here today,

Yeah, every now and then I think about selling the R8 and R8A and keeping the R8B and my
R7.

Just saw an R7A sell on eBay for I think $1576.00. That was with the 2.3 kHz filter and
the stock wire across the filter board for maybe 9 kHz selectivity.

I never quite understand why the R7A commands such a high price. Since it is an R7 with
the NB7A noise blanker an 2.3 kHz filter and said wire stock.

My R7 currently has 2.3, 3 (Sherwood), 4, 6, and 8 kHz filters, NB7A NB, and AUX-7
program board installed.

I don't use it every day, but in tough situations it is always here.

still on the market. Look at the prices they go for. All good stuff,
keep yours, they aren't coming back. Enjoy them while your young.

The R7A didn't have the better VFO. The only way to get the better VFO was to get a Drake
R4245 which was a military version of the R7/A.

Other than that, one might obtain a RV75 vfo which was the same as that used in the 4245.

I had a RV75 at one time that I obtained at a ridiculously low price but I could not find the
1544 adapter to make it work properly with the R7. So I sold it at a ridiculously high price!

Since then, I've seen some 1544 adapter clones for sale.

But, not to worry. As long as you let the R7/A warm up, it's OK. If it drifts a bit, OK.
That's what a damn tuning knob is for!

Just couldn't come to the

You could be right, as you know more about the Drakes than I would. I'll
have
to dig it out when I have the time here. I have 2 manuals for this, and
they both say Drake ON THE COVERS, so I need to look at this. And, yes
they do drift on warm-up. not a big deal, that's why it's called warm
up. When i bring one from storage for use in the shack here, it may be
on for a few days. If I'm going to dig it out, I want to enjoy it for
a while. When I said the better VFO, I meant the RV75, out board unit.
Big bucks for that. Got me thinking here. I looked at the Radiomarine
R7 (EAC), natz, says Drake on the rear. The 2 manuals state MSR-2,
made for EAC, main receiver- marine use. I know it's Drake, and not
the R7, as you state. Feb., 1977, so does this pre-date the R7 line?
