I'd be surprised if our embassies haven't been full of microwave
detectors since the 50s, back when they discovered Leon Theremin's
microwave powered bug.

If I remember correctly, news reports said US diplomats posted to Moscow
were paid hazardous duty pay due to the high level of microwave
radiation. Officially, the State Department said they had no ****in'
idea why the Soviets would do such a nasty thing, despite the fact that
the bug had been public knowledge since the U2 flap.

Not that I'd be surprised that the Cubans/Russians weren't beaming
microwaves at the diplomats. Only that we didn't know it was microwaves,
like immediately.
