Hi Andy,

The best thing that I have ever heard about for an R 71-A were Timewave
Technology DSP units. Back in 1993, their "DSP 9" and the "DSP-59" were
the units to be had. They did everything but tune in the station for
you! QRM, QRN went away completely. Back then, the prices were $169 and
$299 respectively. Now, you can probably get them a lot less
expensively on EBAY or one of the "amateur radio" swap newsgroups. All
the hams that I know had one and they said that it was the only filter
they ever needed.

Hi all

I have an Icom R71 and am considering paying out for either an FL-44a
or an Inrad equivalent. I'd be most grateful if anyone who has
experience of this upgrade could let me know what they think. Is it
worth the cost and does it really make a difference to the performance
of this excellent receiver?

I listen mostly to SW broadcast stations, but do so in SSB mode when
the going gets tough. Would the FL-44a help with tough DX-ing?

Cheers

Andy
