Which leads me to the question: I surfed this newsgroup and know that I have no idea what most of you are talking about. All I know is that: 1. I want a receiver 2. I want a good one What do I want/need? Is there some sort of book I can/should buy which will help me decypher the lingo of shortwave? Thanks for any help in advance. Joe You will get a lot of good advice - some of it conflicting, but that's all in the game - right here. Read all of it, and "sift" - you'll do fine. And remember that the antenna is a *very* large part of how succesful your listening will be. With a good receiver, you can get excellent results with a homemade antenna costing about $20 worth of materials you can buy in any hardware store. The learning process is half the fun.
