Is there anything special to recommend about the Grundig TR-807? This
unit, while clean, in working order, and apparently well-made, brought in excess of $300. I am somewhat mystified by the money this radio commanded. This model looks to me like a made-in-Japan competitor for the high line Zenith TO's of the era. But is it an exceptional performer? Regards, Grumpus |

It's an interesting radio, but not worth anywhere near $300. I think some
folks think it's a rare "real" Grundig model since it's pretty old, but it's actually a "made in Japan for Grundig" model, and identical to another set that sold recently on eBay with a Hallicrafters label. It works pretty well on all bands; the VHF section has an 8 gang tuning capacitor that is quite impressive, but I think it's to tune the different VHF bands in with separate LO's instead of providing some kind of super selectivity. The tuning dial has a very fine vernier that makes for easy tuning. Finish is about average for a 70's Japanese set, and the sound is definitely 70's Japanese, not German. All in all, it's probably on par with a Panasonic multiband of the same period, but it's more of a $100 set than a $300 one. "grumpus" wrote in message om...
