This post caught my eye because I just tightened the antenna on my
YB400. I am not sure if what I tightened is the exact part you are
talking about.

My simple repair was done without opening the back of the radio. By
using a Philips Head screw driver I tightened the telescoping whip style
antenna to the small metallic silver part that is notched out to receive
the bottom of the whip. This piece seems to be made of metal on my
radio. (or does it just look like metal?) It also seemed to have taken
all the tension that I put on the screw to prevent the antenna from
flopping around just fine.

I have owned my radio less than a year. No real problems for me yet with
this radio just design issues and that annoying thing with the digital
read out going to zero at times.

I am dismayed to have discovered firsthand the very poor mechanical
design of the Grundig YB 400PE. The antenna is bolted to a tiny piece of
plastic that (obviously) doesn't stand a chance of holding up to the
torque it gets subjected to. This part looks like it costs about $0.01
per 100. To manufacture, that is.
Anyone know where I can buy one (or a few)?

No, the part I'm referring to is internal to the radio. It anchors the
base of the antenna and prevents the base from rotating when you rotate
the whip. If the base rotates, it will break the piece of metal that
connects the antenna to the circuit board.

Thanks for the clarification. Remind me never to look inside my radio.
I don't think I want to see what makes it "ticks". :-)
