I picked up a French station on the RFI button the first night I had the
SW07. No luck since then. I also received my ATS909 so I fiddled with them last night and the sensitivity seems to be about the same. The SW07 using the active loop antenna and the ATS909 using the wire antenna. Think I'll keep the SW07 in my living room since it's small enough to keep on an end table and doesn't take up much more room than a coaster. I have to use batteries in the ATS909 because the AC adapter causes quite a bit of noise with the set. I really am a n00b to SW so I'm still learning what things like USB and all the other fun buttons are for. I live in a ground floor apartment so reception isn't that great but God does make sure I get all those evangelists' shows. In fact, I listened for 4 hours the other night to some guy that claims the World Church started the AIDS, SARS and Madcow epidemics. This is a very addictive hobby ![]() Tim "Mark S. I got my radio the other day (less than $140 -- woo hoo) but I still can't figure out how to order a newer chip. I'm not quite sure what the chip is even for actually, but seems like good information to know. I pressed the BBC button and got some English game show so something must be working. The ROM chip*was* supported by the "F Corporation" (no idea who they are), which is the same group that did the annual editions of the hardcopy Sony Wave Handbook included with Sony SW products. I don't know if it's still being updated, but there should be a form somewhere in the package or manual that you send in for an update at a $20 cost. I think I'd try to verify that it's still being supported first. The ROM chip in the original package has four major broadcasters pre-selected on it (e.g., BBC, DW, VOA,??? with user choice for a 5th). The update used to permit you to select which 5 broadcasters you wanted FWIW. Here's the web site for F corporation: http://www.wavehandbook.com/jp/index-j.html Unfortunately, I can't read Japanese, but it seems to say the last update was done in February '03. The far right button on mine came programmed for RFI. Presumably that's Radio France international - but so far the only RFI I've picked up with the radio is from my computer network and all the other gizmos I have at the house. ----== Posted via Newsfeed.Com - Unlimited-Uncensored-Secure Usenet News==---- http://www.newsfeed.com The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! 100,000 Newsgroups ---= 19 East/West-Coast Specialized Servers - Total Privacy via Encryption =--- |
