Default I think I got it. Roberts R9940.

I think I may have discovered the radio that will do the job. (Maybe)

http://www.robertsradio.co.uk/r9940_page.htm

The Roberts R9940 is good because it's a must for me that:

1 It's not more than 180mm (7") wide.

2 It has LW, MW, FM.

3 It is PLL digital.

4 It has RDS.

5 It looks good.

6 Price, not bad at about £60. I don't want to spend more than about
£70.

The only possible reasons why I would not buy this radio is because:

There is a similar radio with same performance that has SW as well. So, why
not get SW as well.

The FM performance is "naff". That is, it receives images and front end is
prone to overload.

The only other radio I have seen is the ICFM33RDS, but I've heard it's a bit
naff on FM.

http://www.thehifistore.co.uk/eshop/.../ICFM33RDS.htm

You can get this at about £35.

I would expect the Roberts to NOT have naff FM performance that the
ICFM33RDS has. It's nearly twice as expensive!!.

Anyone own a Roberts R9940. Is it a good performer? Does it also have naff
FM performance? If so, that will put me off it.

Please feel to interject and say you know of a better radio than the R9940
given the six points above. That might be difficult I think.

Rich.

Get a Roberts R876 if you can afford it
http://www.robertsradio.co.uk/r876_page.htm

Has SW which you'll eventually want anyway

It's the same radio as the Sangean ATS 606
and an excellent performer

Yea, good one. Thanks for the input.

£130 at Nevada. Getting above my price really.

I just talked to mate of mine and lo and he told he has an R881.

http://www.nevada-radios.co.uk/acata...erts-r881.html

He seems he's intersted in selling. Maybe I could get an R881 for £50. That
might be good way to go! If he will sell for say £45 or £50, I think I might
go for the R881, instead of the R9940. No LW or RDS though, but has
shortwave.

I'm phoning him up tomorrow.

Ha! decisions decisions.

http://www.bobsradio.co.uk/lifetime/...time_r9940.htm

Nice radio, LW, RDS, but no SW. About £60.

http://www.bobsradio.co.uk/world/rob...world_r881.htm

No LW no RDS, but SW.

I bet I can pick this upfor £45 from my mate.

http://www.bobsradio.co.uk/world/rob...orld_r9914.htm

LW, no RDS, but SW. About £100.

LW, noRDS, but shortwave.

Nice! But over my price range.

Am I going to bother with LW when I go on holiday to Bridlington? Nah!

Do I really need RDS when I go on holiday to Bridlington? Nah!

Will I need SW when I go on holiday toBridlington? Nah, probably not.

Looks like R881 then, unless it's significantly inferior to R9940,
especially on FM.
