It is a very bad idea to use even the inactive wires because the inductance between the inactive and active wires is great enough to couple a voltage pulse that occures when the phone rings that can destroy the front end of a portable radio. The voltage pulse varies according to region but is usually in the 100-volt range. The filter circuit he outlines to protect the radio effectively reduces the signals you want and even you build it according to his instructions you can still cause yourself a problem. You could get a nasty shock if you are handling the wires when the phone rings. It is also illegal to connect unapproved devices to the phone lines. I strongly advise against connecting a radio to the phone line with or without a filter. Why take the chance. String up a wire in a room or outside. -- Telamon Ventura, California |
