Default FRG-7 performance

according to the table on this web page, Larry Magne rated the FRG-7
as a FAIR radio and the Kenwood R-1000 as a GOOD radio

so why is the FRG-7 in so much demand as a great radio to have and the
R-1000 not ? It may have been the first but that doesn't make it more
desirable today.
