His technical and blodging skills are impressive, though. When Fidel is gone you'll see a sudden transformation and rebirth of Arnie as he shifts his positions. I expect we'll be able to say that of Radio Habana, itself. Once the Great Leader dies (assuming he ever actually does, and doesn't stay alive for decades more just to hack off future U.S. Presidents), the changes in Cuban society should be dramatic and fascinating to watch. Seen it before, and I know with certainty that I'll see it again! This is not an indictment of Arnie, everyone must operate within the context of the society in which they live. El Jefe was only in his 20s when he marched out of the hills with Che Guevara and overthrew Bautista. I think he's now in his late 70s, so he could conceivably live another 20 years. I think a great deal will depend on Fidel's Brother. They say he's the nasty one. Everybody thought that North Korea would be freed when Kim Il Sung died, but his son easily took over. So it's concievable, but I imagine Fidel's hermano is getting up in age too, so eventually the old guard will run out of time. |
