I wish to know about the performance of Hallicrafters TW 1200 solid
state 12 band portable SW radio. How does it compare with the modern
digital receivers ,is it worth buying and how much one can pay for a

It is probably a collectors item so you wouldn't buy it just for the
reception you can get from it.

This is a rare radio, and I'm not sure you'll get many replies from people
who've actually used the radio. I can make a couple of guesses about the
radio, however. It has pretty much the same set of features of many of the
larger Asian made multiband radios of the late 70s. These radios had decent
AM/FM performance, good SW sensitivity but poor image rejection and
stability. The VHF bands have excessive bandwidth because they share the
same IF amplifiers as the FM broadcast band. But, again, this isn't a
specific review of the TW-1200 but a review of the many clone radios on the
market at the time, which I think are similiar. Based on performance, I
wouldn't pay $30.00 for the big old multiband sets such as the Ross World
Master 8000.

I think there's an exact twin of the Hallicrafters TW-1200 radio with
another brand name out there.

Chuck Dachis has this radio priced at $399.95 in 1979. I'll guess it's rare
because it had a poor performance/price ratio.

AADE's hampedia says somebody paid $512.00 for a TW-1200. It's probably a
good investment if you could get a cosmetically excellent one at a low
price.
