Long ago you had 4 seasons starting on the first Sunday of March, May,
September and November, according to ITU rules.

Then in the 1970's Europe started to introduce winter/summer time (last
Sunday of March and September) and lots of broadcasters had to publish six
schedules per year, which became extremely confusing.

From the beginning of the 1990's (with better international coordination
after the Cold War) more and more broadcasters simplified things and reduced
to two seasons per year, on the last Sunday of March and the last day of
October (as all European countries moved their switch from summer/winter
time from the end of September to the end of October).

But some broadcasters still make some additional adjustments on the first
Sunday of March, May, September and November; among them Radio France
International and the Voice of Russia.

I hope that was clear.....

Hi,

Newbie at this.

Regarding the sw schedules designations, A04, B04, etc., exactly what

do
they signify ?

I assume the 04 part means 2004, but how does the letter part work ?

Are there just A and B ? Others also ?
When do they change ?
etc. ?

Thanks,
Bob

The A04 season started March 28, at that time the B03 season ended.

On October 30 or 31 (sorry off the top of my head) the B04 season will
begin, followed by the A05 season which will begin at the end of March

2005.

So on and so on.

At one time (not terribly long ago) it was more complex than just having

two
'seasons', perhaps someone might refresh my memory?
