It was still going strong. I had alerted a Venezuelan-American friend in Flagstaff, AZ, but, with her poor antenna system feeding her YB300SE, the signal was weak. She was excited about it, though, so she tuned in to it on the Internet. Then, via IM, she interpreted for me the proceedings, while I listened to it on SW. Her (via satellite?) feed was a few seconds behind the SW, which is normal. It was an upbeat, multi-national conference hosted by President Chavez. One of the things discussed was the desirability of the formation of the United States of South America. Chavez believes the whole Western Hemisphere is America, which it is. Is that actually Venezuela or a relay via Cuba? The latter I think... Steve Holland, MI Drake R7, R8 and R8B http://www.iserv.net/~n8kdv/dxpage.htm |

RNV doesn't have an active shortwave transmitter anymore. That was a
Cuba relay which has been occurring for several years now. Chavez and Castro are bossom buddies. Cuba has been sending teachers, doctors and security personnel to Venezuela while Chavez sends petroleum at a discount price. RNV transmitted many years ago on 9540kHz with less than 50 kw of power from an antenna located at Campo Carabobo outside Caracas. |

Many thanks, Bexar, for the info, which I've saved.
By the way... I would guess you are in, or are from, San Antonio or thereabouts. G 73, Bill, K5BY SE Texas |
