I want a really good, portable, FM radio. I live in NYC, and I have lots of reception/interference problems. I was hoping the Sony 100s would be a good choice for my needs. Anybody got any opinions on how it functions as an FM radio (i.e. as an expensive Walkman). Thanks, -barry I tried ALL of the shortwave portables regarding their FM performance. The very best ( testing with ears only!!) is the SANGEAN 909. You have to learn how to manipulate the whip antenna. I get stations with this radio that others only come in with an attic antenna. I'm not much of a music listener, but I will agree with Pete. The 398/909 does sound sweet. It did before I got it modded and they put in a bigger speaker, sounds even better now. It sounds so good that I leave the 'voice mode section' on *music* even when I listen to SW, because you have two other choices - news and normal.- It stays on 'music.' Pete Thanks for the recommendation. I'm hoping to find something smaller than the 909, but it gets such good comments that maybe I'll reconsider. The YB400 has a very hot front end for FM as well. One of the most sensitive radios I've used. |
