Same answer every time. The DX-399.
All I know is that, of all my radios, the one I would choose for a backpacking/bicycle/motorcycle/Eurail/car tour of Europe or across the US would be the DX-399. It is the size of a paperback book, A small paperback at that. I have to agree, that is my first choice if going out and needing something small, nothing even really comes close to it IMO. Only drawback is lack of ssb, but that is it, if that isn't a concern it is the smartest choice.
