I downloaded Shortwave Log and attempted an install on a Windows XP-Pro
system, but got the message that .NET Framework 1.1.4322 had to be
installed on the system. Went to MS to get it and decided to install
.NET Framework 2.0 BETA instead of the older version. SWLog still
insists on ver. 1.1.4322.
Anyone else had and solved this problem? I hope I don't have to
uninstall 2.0 Beta and install 1.1 instead. I'm on a 56k line and it
takes a loooong time to download over 200 meg! :-)
I would not risk using the .NET 2.0 beta at this stage. Better to stick
with the current 1.1 version. Run the Windows Update to get the 1.1
version, then run it again to get the security update to the 1.1
version. (Why it doesn't install an updated version the first time, I
don't know.) The first one is about 20Mb to download, then another 10Mb
to download the second one, so you will probably want to do this on a
broadband connection.
Also, once you get SWLog installed and running, be sure to update all of
the databases with the data you can download and import into the system.
Having all that reference information on hand makes identifying what you
might hear, and logging it, much easier. However, ONLY install the FCC
Amateur Radio database if you (1) are really going to use that
information, and (2) have a broadband connection and a fast computer (or
you can leave the computer running overnight for just the import process
-- it takes quite a while. The other databases don't take nearly as
long.
And if you have a PocketPC device (not a PalmOS system, not sure about
support for SmartPhones), there is a version for it, too. Handy if you
can't lug a notebook with you when you're operating away from home. The
data on the PocketPC log can be imported into the full SWLog easily.
