Hi group,
can obtain a used R-5000 and like to replace my old R-1000. As far as I can see it is the original filtering. Saw a YK-88S inside (the standard SSB filter) and the 'M1' and 'N' filter space. Would like to have a good 6 kHz AM filter (120/90/60m DXing) and maybe a 4kHz filter ??? Is it worth to have one ? Heard the optional 6kHz is better the the standard ...since these are long gone and Inrad has nice ones so .. Which combination can I have in the R-5000 ??? I thought of a 6kHz filter for the easy ones the 4kHz for the hard and the original built-in SSB for the rest !?! Any opinion ?? Claus |

If I had my choice, I'd go for a slightly wider filter that I could use in SSB for tropical band dx. 4 kHz is a bit too wide... something slightly wider than the usual 2.x filters that are generally installed. I prefer to use a 3 kHz (Sherwood) filter here in the R7, and it's much better audio wise than the 2.3 kHz filter. dxAce Michigan http://www.iserv.net/~n8kdv/dxpage.htm |
