Hi dxAce

It looks like I can't get LP down here. At least not since I've been trying.
I'm no lame even though I'm only doing "our thing" for 8 months. But, I've
learned a great deal and have good equipment. I guess I have to catch him
under the best conditions.

Hey, I pick up plenty of good DX stations down here in Florida but no luck
for Lucky so far with LP.

Beats me, but it's incorrect.

Incorrect to me would mean that the LP didn't sign on at that time and on
those
freqs. But they did. ;-)

Well, I checked 5746 after receiving your post and they were not there.
They were
however on 11545, 9251 and 6959 at 2200 s/on as monitored here. I've not
known them
to use more than 3 frequencies at once, nor have I seen any loggings that
would
suggest that they do.

You did post your observation under a URL for a schedule that is known to
be
incorrect.

As I stated before, beats me.

It might have been an error.

Hang in there, you'll catch the Poacher.

Should be up at 1200 on 16084, 15682 and 14487.

Heard here on all three frequencies with the 'Poacher Tune', weak.

Hey Lucky,
I'm sure you've mentioned it ...but I missed it. What receiver and what type of
antenna are you using.

I heard LP on two of the three incorrect freqs yesterday on a Hammarlund 129X
with a 600ft. tract of wire and on my modded DX-394 on an Alpha Delta sloper
roughly 60 ft. high.

Keep trying, you'll hear it. If I can hear LP on the wrong freqs, I'm sure you
can hear them on the correct ones. ;-)

Hi

Ok right now I'm using my JRC NRD-525 with a 35 Ft dipole and a 4:1 Current
balun coupled with a MFJ-959 pre-amp/tuner. I don't use the tuner that
often. As you know it amps the noise too along with the signal so I use only
it when absolutely neccessary. I'm on the 23rd floor of a building so I get
good signals.

That's your problem... you're using a dipole. A dipole is for use on a very
narrow range of frequencies. Now, using the tuner, you might get a better match
to the receiver.

My suggestion would be to use a single wire, and match it with a transformer. I
think you might get better broadband performance from that.

However, you may be somewhat limited being on a 23rd floor.

That's not so lucky, no pun intended.

LUCKY,

Forget the Dipole ETC.

Since your are up 23 Floors (10-12Ft X 23 = 230-276 Feet)

Vertical "Drop" Antenna # 1.
- Buy 100-200 Feet of TV 300 Ohm Twin Lead.
- Take the Far-End and 'bare' the Wires, then Twist the ends together.
- Attach a 8 Ounce Fishing Weight to the Far-End.
- Take the Near-End and 'bare' the Wires, then insert/connect
them to the Antenna and Ground Terminals for your Receiver.
- Lower the TV Twin Lead out the Window for your antenna.

Vertical "Drop" Antenna # 2.
- Buy 100-200 Feet of TV 300 Ohm Twin Lead.
- Take the Far-End and 'bare' the Wires, then Twist the ends together.
- Attach a 8 Ounce Fishing Weight to the Far-End.
- Take the Near-End and 'bare' the Wires, then connect them to
the 300 Ohm-End of a TV 300 Ohm to 75 Ohm Matching Transformer.
- Connect the 75 Ohm-End to a 6-25 Foot piece of TV 75 Ohm Coax
Cable. {Enough Coax Cable to go from the Window to the Radio.)
- Buy a "F" to SO-239 Adapter (RadioShack Catalog # 278-258)
to 'connect' the TV Coax Cable to the So-239 Jack on the Radio.
- Lower the TV Twin Lead out the Window for your antenna.

NOTE: Make sure that the Fishing Weight is between Floors
and not hitting (breaking) anyones windows :-{

Good deal, you can have quite the setup living up that high. I also have a 4:1
balun, for whatever reason...I only used it once and it went into the closet. I
got it out last week.

To you and the more knowledgable in here. What exactly would a 4:1 balun be
used for? I figured to string up some wire or dipole and be able to run coax
into your shack. I'm sure there is a better reason. ;-)
