Propagation conditions. Propagation conditions on the HF bands have been relatively poor for the season. Average daily sunspot number rose this week from last, jumping over 17 points to 38.1. Average daily solar flux was almost the same. Solar activity has been very low, and fortunately geomagnetic indices are also low. So, some sporadic openings to South Africa on 28 MHz have been reported by Bulgarian hams. DX signals come through mostly on 21, 18, 14 and 10 MHz at the appropriate times, although rather weak. Apparently, the 18 MHz band seems to be the best DX band at present. A slight increase in solar flux is predicted for October 15-16, when it may rise to around 105. Watch the 28 and 24 MHz bands, perhaps they will produce some DX. If the bands look empty, don't just listen but call CQ! It may be rewarding!

Agree, poor conditions. Here on the east coast / U.S

However, there are brighter spots, at 13:30 UTC,
am currently picking up Radio Australia on 9.580;

The lower frequencies were kind of dead around sunrise today so I
started scanning some higher frequencies. At around 1330 I heard a VU
callsign on 15 meters. I camped out on the frequency (21.310) and
about 45 minutes later (when he faded back in) was able to work the
station near Bombay, India (from Michigan).

I think we might pay too much attention to propagation forecasts
because there were very few hams stateside who gave the station a
call. (BTW- I'm just using a G5RV at about 20 ft).
