Study links childhood cancer, power lines LONDON, England, Oct. 29 (UPI) -- A British study finds that children who live near high-voltage electrical power lines may have twice the risk of some kinds of cancer. The Times of London reports that the Childhood Cancer Research Group at Oxford University studied 70,000 children, half of them with cancer. Gerald Draper, the lead author, said that high-voltage power lines appear to have been a factor in 20 to 30 of the 500 cases of childhood leukemia in the country every year. "The findings have been surprising," Draper said. "It has made us want to figure out whether power lines might be to blame. But I feel we have not yet found out conclusively that that is the case." Draper said his group completed their research more than a year ago, but he asked the Department of Health to delay releasing the findings while he studied them further. Reason to bury all power lines maybe??....And bury BPL under a rock hopefully!! Question? Those of you that live in a townhome or other area with buried utilities.....Can you tell me if these area's seem to be quieter overall than locations with overhead utilities? Ernie |
