October of 2001. Crystal clear, no polar flutter. Giving a weather report at 1630. dxAce Michigan USA |

When do you typically monitor for DG? I need to be on this in the next few
days as I am off during the day, Thanks! "dxAce" wrote in message ... Diego Garcia on 13254 usb heard here at a level that I have not witnessed since October of 2001. Crystal clear, no polar flutter. Giving a weather report at 1630. dxAce Michigan USA |

dxAce posts in UTC time like all world DXer's
He reported 1630 UTC as the time. I don't know why dxAce would get "polar flutter" on Diego Garcia as the path from Michigan to DG lies South of the Arctic Circle and the auroral belt?? -- John Plimmer, Montagu, Western Cape Province, South Africa South 33 d 47 m 32 s, East 20 d 07 m 32 s. That is indeed true John, but a the short path to DG from here indeed passes near the polar region. http://gc.kls2.com/cgi-bin/gc?PATH=H...AP-STYLE=azeqi And here is a look at the auroral area: http://sec.noaa.gov/pmap/pmapN.html dxAce Michigan USA |

Thanks for that Steve
My Encarta World Atlas shows very accurately the path for any two points. The nearest the path from Holland to DG passes just South of the Arctic circle at Iceland and the nearest it gets is 65.30 North. The Arctic Circle starts at 66.30 North. But your excellent sec.noaa map clearly shows the path well in the heart of the auroral belt, so you will get polar flutter as you wrote. Thanks for informing me about that -- John Plimmer, Montagu, Western Cape Province, South Africa South 33 d 47 m 32 s, East 20 d 07 m 32 s. I can usually hear them from at least 1300 UTC, and at times before then depending on whether propagation is with me. 1300 is currently 0800 local time here. At many times hear them to at least 1700+ UTC here. They come in the best here on my 70' wire which runs N-S. dxAce Michigan USA http://www.iserv.net/~n8kdv/dxpage.htm |
