And they're expensive because of it. There are far more Japanese made
tabletops, such as Yaesu, especially from the 80s before China started
making all the radios. Yaesu's are inexpensive too, and IMO offer the
most bang for the buck.

Much as I like, over all, Yaesu's product line, they tend to produce
real bombs every now and then, and their DC-daylight jobber is one of
them. The FRG-100 and FRG-7 are far better radios. IMHO.

If I was going to spend about $400.00 to about $500.00 for an
American
made table model Shortwave Radio, what would be the best choice for
me? I
am not interested in Chinese made radios at all.

I don't believe there ARE any US made SW radios.. or for that matter,
any
radios. Even Drake is made overseas, IIRC..

I use a FRG-8800, and while it has its quirks, it works great for me.
Others recommend the FRG-100, AKA "Century Frog".

I never tried any of these. I use RF gain a lot and I don't think any of
these have it. Shoot, even my Sony 7600GR has a variable attenuator. I bet
they sold a lot of the FRG-7's.
