Many years ago, every year at the Mississippi State Fair which is held
here in Jackson every October, there used to be a guy who always showed
up at the Fair over by the Exibition buildings. He always had the hood of
his old car popped open and he was always hawking a gadget that was
supposed to give cars more Horsepower and more Miles per Gallon and make
car engines run much more Smoothly.Just Listen To That Engine Roar with
all of that increased Horsepower,Folks! I don't remember the name of
those Phoney Baloney gadgets (I fell for that one) but he would stick
those gadgets between the ignition coil wire and the distributor on the
engine of his old car.Every time I think about my Worthless Tiny-Tenna,I
think about that old guy at the Fair pulling the wool over those folks
who were foolish enough to Waste their Money on those gadgets.

There is an old Country Song that goes something like this, We got
marrieddd in a feverrrrrrrr,,,,,, Hotter! than Brussels
sproutsssss,,,,,,,, We are going to Jacksonnnnnnn,,,,,,, Look Out
Jackson townnnnnnnnn,,,,,,,,

A guy in Chicago once road his bicycle from Chicago to Biloxi (this is
True) to visit his sister. Not far North of Jackson an old timer told him
to steer clear of Jackson because Jackson is full of prostitutes and
politicians and you can't tell the difference between any of them.

No, we're not talking about that. It seems you don't want to
PARTICIPATE in amateur radio. Why??? You are still stuck in the world
of shortwave. Why, Steve??? A lot of nice scanners and shortwave, but
where is all of your ham
gear, Steve?? Instead of cuasing problems in here, you could be on
amateur radio having a great time.

Just because someone doesn't want to participate in amateur radio doesn't
mean they are technically illiterate. I am both a ham and SWL'er and
sometimes I get bored with amateur radio even though I'm into digital modes,
CW operating, QRP, homebrewing, SSTV, and beaconing. But my first love is
and always will be HF listening. Personally I go in turns, listening to
utes for a while, then maybe getting on the ham bands and chatting for a
while.

But don't insinuate that because someone enjoys SWLing that they don't also
enjoy amateur radio. Despite Steve's faults I have seen some good
information come from his direction.
