In case anyone's interested:

There's been a lot of Coast Guard traffic on this frequency
today...more than usual. Most of it is communication between aircraft
and ground stations.

Yeah, it's really strong here too, and it's been going on pretty much
all day.

Anyone hearing any of this in the Midwest? I'm in Minnesota... I never hear
any east coast CG activity from my area.

Yes, I posted earlier. I'm in southern Michigan, and it's so clear
here, I was wondering if it was Great Lakes - but I gather it is east
coast -?

I couldn't pick up anything on 8983 this evening... oh well, I tried.
Occasionally I can hear iron oar freighters on the Great Lakes during the
summer months, but as I don't have the best of all possible antennas at my
current location, I don't listen to the utility part of the SW bands much
right now.

Still, I hope that one day the propagation gods will smile upon me, and that
I'll be able to hear fishing boats off the east coast, with their requisite
assemblage of colorful characters engaged in a good argument or three.

Jackie, what kind of antenna are you using? Are you limited to
something indoors or can you get a wire outside?

Here is a reprinted article from Ocean Voyager that describes CAMSLANT
CHESAPEAKE from a pleasure-boater's point of view:

This is the only story of it's kind about the CAMS.
