Never.................a person's word is supposed to be as good as gold. Too
bad that being responsible isn't looked at as a virtue anymore. Years ago, I used to work in customer service for one of the major banks. Our department head pounded it into us that when taking care of a customer problem, even if we didn't have the solution yet, we should call them from time to time to let them know that we were still working on a solution to their problem. As an addendum, what she was probably trying to say when she said she'd get back to him was that she'd get back to him if circumstances with the winning bidder change. Another no-brainer. If that was the case, that is what she should have said. Nothing that important; it is to be expected when dealing with such a large section of society. There used to be a big flea market on Maxwell Street (east side of Chicago) every weekend. You could find almost anything there at any given time, from rare items to outright junk. I alway tell my friends "Maxwell Street didn't disappear......it just moved to the Internet". For those of you who saw the Blues Brothers, the scene where John Lee Hooker was playing the song Boom Boom was on Maxwell Street. Pete |

the future. It looks like this person doen't have much experience selling on eBay. Also, she could have been intimidated by the feeling of "being stuck in the middle". Sometimes my wife gets overloaded in that type of situation. You wil. find another one.....................many times, people get tired of some of their radios and simply sell them. If you pick up a broken one, shout me down and I will help you with the repair. Pete Actually the seller doesn't really sell radios. She sells home made baskets. That's her thing. She had a AOR 7030 and that Europa for sale for a friend as a "shack reduction sale" I was willing to take a chance even though she only had a feedback of 16 on very small sales. Perhaps you're right and I am better off. Thanks Pete Lucky |

Some how I don't like your tune. Like I really care. This is not the first time I've seen Japanese and foreign buyers paying way over what they usually go for and blowing away other buyers. And the problem with that is? Other than it means you don't get the item. And when it happens to you, I hope you feel the same way. I have been outbid a number of times, I figure out what the max I will pay for an item and that's it, if I get outbid, well that's life and that's how an auction works. I deal with it an move on, not whine and cry about how it is somehow unfair. People from overseas seem to be always willing to buy at very high prices since most Ebayers won't ship out of the country. So, I always stay away from worldwide auctions unless it's a little item like Brenda Ann mentioned. Plus these foreign bidders money is worth more then our US dollar so they can pay more too. That's life, deal with it. So what you really want is for no foreing bidders to bid against you so you can have your item. Auctions don't work that way in case you haven't noticed. Yes it does work that way with MOST sellers that won't ship overseas no matter what. So auctions do work that way in case YOU haven't noticed. But you want a seller to ban overseas bidders on any item you want just so you have a better chance at it. So now you want sellers who have an item you want to disallow any overseas buyers so you can maybe win the auction. That's right. It cuts down on the number of bidders so if someone states they won't address all those other foreign bidders and and say so in the auction, they should stick to it. There are terms that people should stick to in life. It shows who and what they are in this world. Sorry if you don't see that. In other words, you want it fair only for you. Again, it is the seller's auction, they can do what they damn well please and they don't have to consult you. Deal with it. Again, you don't seem to understand how an auction works. eBay is world wide and no seller is obligated to disallow certain bidders just for your benefit. You really need to get a clue. Maybe the Jap buyer had it shipped to a friend in the U.S. who then shipped it to him. This is true. I have no idea if that happened. I think it would have been nice if the seller told me that since I was a bidder and helped bid her item up high. Again, the seller can do whatever they wish about shipping and they don't have to take your feelings into consideration at all. Then on top of that, when I asked the seller about her auction and the Japanese winner, she thanked me for "alerting" her to this and would get back to me. I even offered her the winning bidders price so she would not have lost anything. Not a cent. But she never got back to me with any sort of explanation. And she didn't owe you any explaination. No one has to do anything Cmd. For some reason I like to deal with humans, not robots. If you had been dealing with a robot, then the no shipping out of the US would have stuck, you are dealing with humans that can and have the right to change their mind and make their own decisions, all without your consent by the way. |

I can believe this. However, in that case I wonder whether the HF-150E has anything over a standard HF-150 attached to a good quality highpass filter. The 150 I use had very few problems with intermodulation even here in the NYC metropolitan area. What few problems it did have were cleared up completely by a Kiwa highpass filter. I already had the filter lying around, but even new it would cost a lot less than a Europa...and there are some high quality highpass filters out there that cost less than Kiwa's. On the other hand, you might just want a Europa because it's a Europa...I can understand that too. Steve |

She did, because she told him that she would.
We only have his word at what she said. We do not know exactly whatshe said or whathe said. So its premature to say that she was at fault at all. Besides all he is really doing now is whining like a baby and trying to get attention. Perhaps he is hoping spmeone will take pity on him an offer to sell him a SW radio This newsgroup is about shortwave radio, but I think is also serves a need for social interraction. This is a good thing; people need to know that they are all special. If somebody runs into an unhappy situation the way Lucky did, I don't see any problem with his venting on rec.radio.shortwave. It is a heck of a lot better than some of those off-topic political posts that tend to bash certain individuals. We are all people, and we are going to feel emotional at certain times. Expressing our feelings are healthy. For those who don't believe this, maybe we should start a newsgroup entitled rec.people.automatons............just kidding. You are correct............maybe we don't really know what the exchange was between Lucky and the eBay seller, but I think that my first assessment was probably correct. I think that this was an inexperienced seller. I also think that this might have been the first time she was in this kind of situation and that she didn't know how to handle it. Part of being human, you know................. I can understand Lucky's disappointment with the deal. I remember, several years ago I was at the Rockwell-Collins Inventory Disposal store. We all had a gentlemens' agreement that the first person in line would have the first pick of one of the good pieces of test equipment that were available. My friend Jack was first in line, and he got ahold of a nice HP 436A RF power meter, with the sensors for only 20 dollars. Boy, was I mad at him! As time went on, I realized that people are more important than things, no matter how nice the things are. I told him that I was pretty mad at him at that time, but that his friendship was much more important than a piece of test equipment. We remained good friends over the years, and last year, he gave me a really good deal on an 8444A, Option 059 Tracking Generator. This is the matching unit for my 8558B Spectrum Analyzer. The whole point of this rant (and rave) is that if a deal on one item is missed, another one will always show up in the future. As an example, a friend of mine (Dave Z) just ordered a Lowe HF250 receiver from some place in the UK that does ship to the US. Around 800 dollars with shipping and import duty.............not much more than tha HF150E that the Japanese fellow bought from eBay. Pete |
